RWANDA’S pugilist Haziza Matusi faces a Turkish opponent Akbulut Alperen today in the preliminary round of this year’s edition of the AIBA Youth World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Matusi, who is Rwanda’s only boxer who will compete in the Singapore Youth Olympic Games battles Alperen in the feather weight category (47kg).

If Matusi beats his Turkish opponent, he will face the winner between Ireland’s Esmaeili Hussein and Colombian Barrera Estrada.

Matusi is the second Rwandan boxer to go into the ring after fellow Rwandan Peter Habyarimana’s campaign came to an abrupt end when the boxer fell to Marriaga Campo Eduar Antonio of Colombia in the preliminary round on Sunday.

Habyarimana, who was competing in the bantam weight category (54kg), was knocked out after just one minute and 59 seconds into the first round.
