Muslims donate over Rwf25m to orphans

African Muslim Agency (AMA), yesterday, donated over Rwf20 million in cash and clothes worth Rwf5m to 430 orphans.

African Muslim Agency (AMA), yesterday, donated over Rwf20 million in cash and clothes worth Rwf5m to 430 orphans.

The event took place at the Islamic Cultural Centre in Nyamirambo, Nyarugenge district.

Muhamoud Abudalazim, in charge of orphans at AMA, said that the donation was aimed at giving equal opportunity to the orphans so that they become responsible citizens and have a role in the development of the country.  

"This donationwill help them continue with their primary and secondary education and make them have a sense of belonging,” said Abudalazim.

He added that the donation is given every four months to the same orphans where each gets Rwf 47,000 and an assortment of commodities.

Among the 430 orphans selected, 240 were from Kigali, 152 from Kiramuruzi in Eastern province and 38 from Gashora in Bugesera district.

Abudalazim said that the orphans are identified by the local authorities from their respective areas, adding that AMA plans to support 1000 more orphans in education.

AMA was founded by Kuwaitis and is aimed at supporting education and health programs especially among orphans.
