NYANZA – Local officials led by the district Mayor, Abdallah Murenzi, last Saturday visited 22 orphans living in Nyabisindu sector and offered them support worth Rwf1m.

The Mayor said that the visit was meant to show hospitality to orphans during the ongoing genocide commemoration period.

"It is the responsibility of all Rwandans to visit and support genocide survivors so that they can feel that they are not isolated,” said Murenzi.

The orphans thanked the district officials for the support, and expressed some of their challenges.

"It is a great pleasure for us to be visited by district officials; it gives us more hope and shows that we are not really isolated. However, we request the district to help some of us who completed secondary school to pursue higher education,” said one orphan who gave her name only as Goretti.

The officials commended the orphans for their hard work after inspecting their agricultural projects.
