Grass thatched houses in Rwanda will be replaced permanent houses, with iron sheet roofing

Editor,

I want to laud the partnership between the Government and the Rwandan Diaspora, that has been established to impliment a project aimed at phasing out grass-thatched houses in the country.

The project, which has been dubbed ‘Bye Bye Nyakatsi’, in its pilot phase, will construct 504 houses for vulnerable and disadvantaged families in Bugesera district, Eastern Province.

This initiative is truly timely. There is no reason for Rwandans to live in grass-thatched homes. Most especially when there is a Government and a People that refuse to see fellow citizens live in squalor. I think that there should be a national fundraising drive like the One Dollar Campaign.

I certainly would be happy to make my contribution.
