The National Electoral Commission (NEC), yesterday trained 100 motorcyclists in Kigali City on the forthcoming presidential elections slated for August 9.

Jean Bosco Rutikanga, who is in charge of elections in Nyarugenge District, said that the sensitization was aimed at equipping the motorcyclists, like other members of the community, with basic knowledge ahead of the polls.

"I encourage you as motorcyclists who meet so many people in your daily activities to always call upon them to actively participate in the forthcoming elections by ensuring they are on voters’ registers. You should also do the same,” Rutikanga said.

He also briefed the participants on various rules and regulations concerning elections and the importance of getting registered on the electoral list.

Speaking to The New Times shortly after the function, Rutikanga said that NEC has so far trained over 400 transporters around Kigali City on the role they should play in the elections.

Other transporters who have since been trained include members of public commuter transporters’ association, ATRACO.
