Kwibohora 32, Rwanda’s Liberation Day, falls on a weekend this year, extending the national holiday into a multi-day program of concerts, cultural performances, sports tournaments and reflective events across Kigali and beyond.
The term ‘Kwibohora’ refers to Liberation, marking the end of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and the beginning of Rwanda’s reconstruction period.
From live music at Kigali lounges to boxing at Petit Stade and cultural showcases in Musanze, the long weekend blends celebration with remembrance.

Ineza y’Inkotanyi concert
The Inzovu Ndeke cultural troupe hosts the "Ineza y’Inkotanyi” concert on July 4 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.mat Mövenpick Hotel Kigali. The performance brings together traditional dance, music and storytelling inspired by Rwanda’s liberation history.
Cultural troupes use drums, choreography and oral storytelling to pass down historical memory in a live performance setting.
Liberation Celebration Night
Copenhagen Lounge runs a one-night event on July 3, featuring performances from Mag Mag, Isonga Family and Mireille Mukakigeli, alongside DJs and nightlife programming.

Inkuru ya Benimana II
On July 4 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Kigali Soul in Kimihurura hosts "Inkuru ya Benimana Edition II.” The program features poetry, a screening of ‘Inzibutso’ (a remembrance-themed play), and a visual art exhibition.
Kwibohora Cultural Night
At Riders Lounge on July 4, the Inkumburwa troupe presents Kwibohora Cultural Night, a live showcase of traditional dance, music and storytelling.
The troupe performs Intore dance, a historic warrior-style performance that uses coordinated movement and drumming to represent strength and unity.
Umurage (Legacy) Art Festival
Opening July 5, at Kigali Universe, Umurage Legacy Art Festival explores "umurage,” a Kinyarwanda word meaning heritage or legacy.
The festival features visual art installations, including paintings and mixed-media works, reflecting on national identity, memory and the meaning of liberation through artistic interpretation.
Musanze Liberation weekend experience
At Best View Hotel in Musanze, organisers are hosting a two-day Liberation weekend programme on July 3 and 4, combining music, hospitality and tourism. Musanze, located near Rwanda’s northern volcanic region, is a key domestic tourism destination during holiday periods.
Volleyball Liberation Cup Finals
The Volleyball Liberation Cup finals take place on July 3 at Petit Stade, with both men’s and women’s matches concluding the tournament. Volleyball remains one of Rwanda’s most followed team sports, with national competitions drawing strong weekend attendance.
Cricket Liberation Cup finals
At Gahanga Cricket Stadium on July 3, the Men’s Elite Cricket Liberation Cup concludes.
Cricket in Rwanda has grown steadily in recent years, with Gahanga serving as the country’s main international-standard facility.
Tennis and Golf Challenge
On July 4, Kigali Golf Club will host a combined tennis and golf challenge, pairing the sports disciplines in a single day of competition for amateur and professional participants.
Liberation Boxing Competition
The weekend closes on July 5 with the Liberation Boxing Competition at Petit Stade, featuring bouts across multiple weight categories as boxers compete in one of the final sporting events of Kwibohora weekend.
Media personality Anita Pendo and actress Mama Sava are among the fighters featured on the boxing card.
