Editor,

I would like to express my heartfelt congratulations to Cathy Emmerson from Ruhengeri on receiving an award from Canada’s Governor General Michaelle Jean this week.

Cathy decided to leave Canada quite a few years ago to devote her life to the people of Rwanda. She is so passionate about her new home and the people in Rwanda.

What she has accomplished in Ruhengeri is truly amazing!
Her organization, PREFER (Poverty Reduction Education Family Empowerment Rwanda), has done so much for her community!  Please take the time to visit her website www.prefer-rwanda.org to see what she has accomplished in such a very short time.

She and her husband, Uwayo Teste, are the heartbeat of their community and I know this because I’ve spent time with them and I’ve seen firsthand how much they are loved and respected by everyone around them.
