The Nyamagabe fish breeding centre has reached 85 per cent completion, according to officials from Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB).

The officials gave the update on Tuesday, June 30 as they appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday, June 30, to respond to findings in the 2024/2025 Auditor General’s report on public finances and project implementation.

According to the audit, RAB signed a Rwf 970.63 million contract in 2024, for the construction of the fish breeding centre in Nyamagabe, with an initial completion period of four months ending December of the sameyear.

However, by the end of the contract period, the project had reached only 21 per cent completion, with a follow up audit in January 2026 indicating progress had reached 50 per cent, reflecting significant delays.

During their appearance before PAC, RAB officials told lawmakers that construction has now significantly progressed and the facility is nearing completion.

"The project is showing strong progress,” said RAB Director General Florence Uwamahoro, as she explained that early delays were partly linked to construction challenges in wetland conditions.

Mutimura Mupenzi, the Acting Deputy Director General in charge of Animal Resources Development at RAB, said the project is now in its final phase.

"The procurement for the remaining equipment has already been done, and delivery is expected by October,” he said, adding that staffing arrangements for the facility have already been completed.

"The workers who will operate the centre have already been recruited. What remains is mainly installation of equipment and finishing works,” he said.Z
