Rwanda Polytechnic (RP) Huye Campus will be represented in both the men's and women's basketball finals of the ongoing Varsity League after dominant semifinals victories on Saturday.
The tournament, which brings together higher learning institutions across the country, saw RP-Huye's men's and women's teams book their places in finals which will take place at on their home court on Sunday.
In the men's semifinals, RP-Huye edged East African University Rwanda (EAUR) 84-83 in a nail-biting contest decided by one point. They will now face the University of Rwanda (UR) Nyarugenge Campus who secured a place in the final after defeating UTAB 75-54.
In the women's category, RP-Huye will take on EAUR in the final. RP-Huye defeated Kibogora Polytechnic 59-44 in the semifinals, while EAUR overcame UR Busogo 55-38.
Despite falling short of the final, EAUR claimed the men's third place with an 89-64 victory over UTAB. In the women's third-place playoff, Kibogora Polytechnic defeated UR Busogo 43-23.
Meanwhile, in volleyball, UR Huye advanced into the men's final after beating UR Nyarugenge 3-1 in the semifinals. They will face East Africa Christian College (EACC) who swept UTAB 3-0 in another last four tie.
The Rwanda Varsity League finals are taking place in both Huye and Gisagara with champions set to be crowned across different sports disciplines on Sunday.
