Rwanda wins 1-0 in extra time
 
Roger Tuyisenge kept Rwanda’s hopes of bagging a second Cecafa senior Challenge cup alive after scoring an extra time winner to beat bitter rivals Uganda 1-0 in yesterday’s semi final which was staged in Dar es Salaam.

Amavubi team had last defeated the Cranes 1-0 in extra time in the 2005 edition which was held in Kigali thanks to a Oliver Karekezi goal.

It was Tuyisenge who crossed the ball that deflected off Cranes captain Andy Mwesigwa to hit the back of the net.
Centre referee Victor Mwandike awarded the goal to Tuyisenge.

Still last year, both teams were placed in the same group; Uganda beat Rwanda 1-0 in the group stages.

Rwanda revenged in the fight for  third place as they defeated Uganda Cranes 5-4 on penalties after a goalless draw at the end of extra time.

Rwanda had lost to the Cranes 2-0 in the group stages of this tournament.

Rwanda will now face Sudan in the final which will be played on Saturday.

The ninety minutes ended in a goalless draw after both teams failed to find the net despite both creating several scoring chances.

The inclusion of Manfred Kizito, Roger Tuyisenge and Hegman Ngoma didn’t bring anything positive to the Amavubi team as Cranes camped in Amavubi’s half in search for victory.

  Raids from Ronald Muganga, Noah Kasule and Dan Wagaluka that kept Ndoli busy the entire second half but came to nothing for the rampaging Cranes. 

Cranes dominated the game in the dying minutes of the game as Amavubi midfield was non-performing despite Kizito replacing Jean Mugiraneza in the defensive midfield role.

Leading goal getter Bokota missed an 86th chance  after Olivier Karekezi had done all the donkey work. 

  Earlier on Bokota’s would be goal was ruled out for off-side by line referee Ali Kombo after the Amavubi striker hit the rebound from Elias Ntaganda’s shot which had been  blocked by Muwonge in Cranes’ goal.

Both teams played attacking football with Uganda Cranes having the lion’s share of possession as Hamis Kitagenda’s double shots were saved by Jean Claude Ndoli. 

Eric Gasana, Bokota and Karekezi’s shots were all off target despite the trio playing a crucial role in trying to put Rwanda ahead.

Both teams were in group B of this year’s Challenge Cup. Amavubi Stars lost to Uganda Cranes 0-2 in the group Stages.

Meanwhile, Sudan booked their final spot on Wednesday after defeating Burundi 2-1. Goals from Saifeldin Ali Idris and Abdelhamid Amarria were enough to ensure the defending champions a chance of winning the $30000 cash prize  as well as the regional title.

Claude Nahimana scored the consolation for the Intamba ku Rugamba.

Both Burundi and Uganda face each other in the battle for third position which will be played prior to the final game on Saturday.
