President Paul Kagame reviews architectural designs for the proposed National Genocide Monument with renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, Founder and Principal Architect of Studio Libeskind, during a meeting.

The plan for the National Genocide Monument was presented to President Paul Kagame on Thursday, June 25.

This was in a meeting with Daniel Libeskind, founder and principal architect of Studio Libeskind; Nina Libeskind, a co-founder of Studio Libeskind; Stefan Blach, partner at Studio Libeskind; and Holm Keller, Chairman of the kENUP Foundation.

They discussed plans for the new National Genocide Monument at the current Kigali Genocide Memorial, envisioned as a powerful space for remembrance, education and reflection.

Daniel Libeskind is a Polish-American architect and artist known for designing the Jewish Museum in Berlin.

According to Village Urugwiro, the discussions focused on plans for the new National Genocide Monument at the current Kigali Genocide Memorial.

The project is "envisioned as a powerful space for remembrance, education and reflection through cutting-edge technology and a deeply immersive, personal experience," the Office of the President said.

Also present in the meeting were Minister of National Unity and Civic Engagement Jean-Damascène Bizimana and Minister of ICT and Innovation Paula Ingabire.

The monument is expected to strengthen efforts to preserve the memory of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, which claimed more than one million lives.

Kigali Genocide Memorial is the final resting place for more than 250,000 Genocide victims. It is one four Rwandan memorials inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage List.
