Bugesera FC are entering a decisive new chapter as they begin the search for a new head coach following the departure of Camarade Banamwana, who has joined newly promoted Sunrise FC.

Banamwana was appointed during the 2025 season on a one-year contract following the exit of Haringingo. He successfully guided Bugesera FC away from relegation danger and brought a level of stability that had long eluded the club.

Under his leadership, the Nyamata-based side developed into a disciplined and competitive outfit capable of challenging some of the league's traditional powerhouses.

One of his most memorable results came during the 2024/25 season when Bugesera held Rayon Sports to a controversial draw, a result that dealt a significant blow to the Blues' title ambitions as they chased their first league crown in seven years.

Banamwana went on to lead Bugesera FC to an eighth-place finish in the 2025/26 campaign. His departure, however, leaves a significant void on the technical bench at a crucial stage of the club's preparations for the new season.

Sources close to the club indicate that Bugesera's management is taking a cautious and strategic approach to the recruitment process.

The club is prioritising a coach with strong knowledge of the local league, the ability to work within its financial framework, and a philosophy centred on long-term development rather than short-term success. As a result, a foreign appointment appears unlikely unless it aligns with those objectives.

Five coaches have emerged as leading candidates for the position. Among them is Sosthène Habimana, who has been without a club since his contract with Musanze FC expired at the end of the 2024/25 season.

Shabani Mbarushimana is also under consideration after AS Kigali opted not to renew his contract, instead appointing Justin Bisengimana as his successor.

Moussa Gatera, Etienne Ndayiragije and Marcel Romami have also expressed interest in the role, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Bugesera FC are expected to announce their new head coach in the coming days as preparations for the 2026/27 season gather momentum.
