CONSTRUCTION of the Olympafrica project in Nyanza, Southern Province will be complete by July this year, according to reports from Ecoges, the construction company overseeing the project.

During a tour by the National Olympic Committee (RNOC) executive (Dr. Charles Rudakubana (president), Thierry Rwabusaza (treasurer) and Thierry Ntwali (executive director), Ecoges Director Etienne Ntawanga confirmed that the project would be ready by July.

"Next week, we shall be working on the basketball, handball, and volleyball courts. Much of the work on the mini-football pitch is complete,” he said.

Initially, the project was supposed to have been finalized last year but construction work came to a standstill because some of the money offered by Foundation Olympafrica was used in the proposed feasibility and case studies of the Olympic City, while the rest was directed into programs which would be used in the development of the general project.

Foundation Olympafrica, which is the main financier, has injected an estimated $61,000 in the project which will cost an estimated $200,000.

The rest of the budget will be footed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), RNOC as well as Nyanza district.
