AS Kigali have appointed Justin Bisengimana as their new head coach on a two-year contract.

Bisengimana takes over from Shaban Mbarushimana, who led the club during the 2025/26 season.

His appointment follows an impressive campaign with Gicumbi FC, where he guided the newly promoted side to a 12th-place finish in the BK Pro League with 38 points.

AS Kigali, meanwhile, endured a challenging 2025/26 season characterized by managerial difficulties and inconsistent performances. Despite significant investment in new players, the club finished 14th with 35 points, narrowly avoiding relegation. The appointment of Bisengimana signals the club’s determination to rebuild and regain its competitiveness.

Bisengimana’s achievements with Gicumbi FC also earned him recognition among the league’s top coaches, as he was nominated for the Coach of the Season award alongside Laurențiu Reghecampf (Al Hilal SC), Darko Novic (Al Merrikh), Canisius Nshimiyimana (Mukura VS), Francis Haringingo (Rayon Sports), and Abderrahim Taleb (APR FC).

AS Kigali have also begun strengthening their squad ahead of the new season by extending the contracts of key players, including Saidi Uwiduhaye, Tharcisse Nshimiyimana, Pascal Kanuma, and Patient Ndikuriyo.
