The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) convened a five-day workshop in Kigali to validate key air operations documents aimed at strengthening regional preparedness and coordination in humanitarian assistance and disaster response.
The workshop, running from June 15 to 19, brought together technical experts from EASF member states, including Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, and Ethiopia.
Participants will review and harmonise the Combined Air Operations Manual, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and a Memorandum of Understanding on Humanitarian Assistance and Natural Disaster Support, according to Rwanda Defence Force (RDF).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Kanobayire said the workshop reflects the region's collective commitment to enhancing cooperation and improving preparedness to respond effectively to humanitarian emergencies and natural disasters.
He noted that validating the operational documents would contribute to building stronger regional air capabilities and facilitate coordinated responses during crises requiring joint action.
The EASF is one of the regional components of the African Standby Force, a key pillar of the African Peace and Security Architecture. It is mandated to plan, coordinate, and undertake peace support operations within the Eastern African region.
