Their selection comes after a highly competitive process that attracted more than 24,000 applications from all 54 African countries.

This year' edition marks a significant milestone for Africa business heroes. For the first time, organizers expanded the first round cohort from 50 to 100 entrepreneurs, citing the growing depth, diversity, and maturity of entrepreneurship across the continent.

The 2026 Top 100 represents entrepreneurs from 27 African countries and 16 industries, with women founders accounting for 33 percent of the cohort. Half of the selected candidates are returning applicants.

Rwanda's six representatives were selected from sectors ranging from health technology and data science to food processing and innovation-driven enterprises, reflecting the country's increasingly diverse entrepreneurial landscape.

The achievement also places Rwanda among the countries with notable representation in the competition. Kenya leads the East African contingent with 13 entrepreneurs in the Top 100, followed by Rwanda with six. Tanzania has two representatives while Uganda has one.

The selected entrepreneurs will now advance to the next phase of the competition, where they will compete for a place among the ABH Top 20 Semi-Finalists.

Although ABH expanded its first-round cohort from 50 to 100 entrepreneurs this year, the competition's US$1.5 million prize pool remains unchanged. The overall winner will receive US$300,000, while the remaining Top 10 finalists will receive grants ranging from US$100,000 to US$250,000.

The semi-finals are scheduled for August 21-22, 2026, in Nairobi, Kenya.

For Rwanda, the recognition highlights the growing influence of local entrepreneurs who are building solutions in healthcare, technology agriculture, and business services.

Five Rwandans have made it among 10 finalists in previous edition. They are Francine Munyaneza of Munyax Eco, Yvette Ishimwe of Iriba Water Group, Christelle Kwizera of Water Access Rwanda, Kevine Kagirimpundu of Uzuri K&Y, and Albert Munyabugingo of Vuba Vuba Africa Ltd.
