Following a recent battle against Cases of officials embezzling public funds are on the decline. This was revealed by Alphonse Hitiyaremye, the Deputy Prosecutor General.

"It is evident that our efforts in fighting corruption and embezzlement of public funds are yielding good results,” Hitiyaremye said yesterday.

"Some people have started being careful as far as handling public funds is concerned because they know they will be arrested and end up serving long prison sentences.”

The prosecutor emphasised that the National Public Prosecution Authority would not relent on efforts to assure taxpayers that government has the responsibility and is capable of protecting their funds.

Giving the example of some of the recent high profile arrests and prosecution of senior government officials, Hitiyaremye said that people have begun to fear the consequences of embezzlement of public funds.
