JEAN Claude Gasigwa’s dream of representing Rwanda at this year’s Davis Cup was shattered yesterday when he was left out of the provisional six-man team.

The squad which was named by the local tennis federation (RTF) includes Dieudonne Habiyambere, Olivier Nkunda, Mathieu Uwizeyimana, Melee Bizimana and two upcoming players Janvier Mugwaneza and Justin Ntaheranwa.

According to the team’s coaches Sylvain Rutikanga and Tony Majaliwa, four players will be selected from the lot to represent the country in the tournament scheduled for May 3-7 in Marrakech, Morocco.

Like last year, Gasigwa’s omission has been heaped on his indiscipline although the federation refused to divulge into the matter.

Rwanda will compete in the Africa Zone Group 3 and need to finish among the top two in the play-offs to get promoted to the Europe/Africa Zone Group II.

Besides Rwanda and hosts Morocco, other countries in contention include Algeria, Angola, Botswana, Cameroon, Congo, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Namibia, Nigeria, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The countries will be divided into four pools.
