Religious people should be at the forefront of fighting trauma

Editor,

Although the 16 Commemoration Week of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi is officially over, I would like to address the trauma issue. I personally think that trauma is a spiritual problem that can only be solved by the belief in a higher power.

Medical and scientific methods may help to reduce the effects or the symptoms of trauma but at the core, the main cause of it is deeper than that!

So unless affected Rwandans have a strong belief in a higher power, I think that they might never be able to overcome the hurt and pain that has led to their trauma.

With this in mind, I call upon all the members of the religious community and all Rwandans to get involved in supporting and encouraging those who suffer from trauma in order to enable them overcome their situation.
