KARONGI – Employees of Gisovu tea factory in Twumba sector, Karongi district have expressed satisfaction with the benefits associated with their jobs. Speaking to The New Times in various interviews, most of the employees said that their future looked brighter.
KARONGI – Employees of Gisovu tea factory in Twumba sector, Karongi district have expressed satisfaction with the benefits associated with their jobs.
Speaking to The New Times in various interviews, most of the employees said that their future looked brighter.
"Through my job, I have been able to get medical insurance for all my family members. All my children are able to attend school and I have something left for my savings account,” Philbert Nsabimana, an employee at the factory said.
He added that as a result of the cooperation between his colleagues they have been able to improve their lives and families.
Emile Nsanzabaganwa, the Director General at the factory, explains that he has been able to mobilize all his 12,000 workers to form a savings’ cooperative (Sacco) with close to Rwf100m savings.
He says that out of the 994 hectares of land which the factory occupies, 340 belong to about 3800 local farmers.
"We have raised our income per capita to about US$2000 per annum and the factory registers close to US$6m as government revenue,” Nsanzabaganwa says.
Gisovu tea factory sells its products to about 11 countries and Rwandan tea is ranked as the best in the Central and East African region.
