Over 300 Rwandans and friends of Rwanda, on April 10, gathered in the state of Tamil Nadu at Annamalai University in India to join the rest of Rwandans in the 16th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

According to Mike Shyaka, a student at the University and coordinator of the series of commemoration events in India, Rwandans from several parts of India and their friends from America, Sweden, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Ethiopia joined them for the event.

"We are expecting more people on April 14, when we shall be closing the commemoration,” Shyaka said in a telephone interview.

The First Counsellor, Eugene Ngoga, is expected to give the keynote speech at the closing ceremony.

According to Shyaka, the commemoration event was held on April 10 instead of April 7, because of a hectic examination schedule.
