MUHANGA - The prosecutor of Muhanga Intermediate Court has commended the justice system in Rwanda for its efforts in building unity and reconciliation in the past 16 years.

Rugambwa Ndubwami, made the remarks while hosting a discussion forum  held last week as part of the ongoing Genocide commemoration week.

"The justice system and laws on genocide helped a lot in restoring peace and unity, except for a few cases which still need to be revisited and some property disputes are yet to be settled,” he said, adding that 99% of the Gacaca court cases have been resolved.

He attributed the achievements to the reforms in the justice sector and changes in the laws aimed at building peace and unity after the genocide. The prosecutor stated that corruption was still a challenge and called on residents to join the fight against the vice.

Eugene Karangwa, the president of Ibuka also said that the justice system has made commendable progress in solving problems of Rwandans using the traditional justice systems.
