Sixty-two Rwandan Muslims who had travelled to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj pilgrimage returned home on Saturday, June 6 and were received at Kigali International Airport.

The pilgrims had spent nearly three weeks undertaking one of the most important religious obligations in Islam after departing Rwanda on May 17.

The Mufti of Rwanda, Sheikh Musa Sindayigaya, alongside other leaders of the Rwanda Muslim Community, family members, friends and other well-wishers gathered at the airport to welcome the pilgrims home following the completion of the journey which attracts millions of Muslims from around the world each year.
Hajj is an annual pilgrimage to the city of Mecca and is considered one of the five pillars of Islam. Muslims who are physically and financially able are expected to perform the pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime.
