Why TTCs continue to excel in national exams

Senior six national examination results for this year indicate that 99.9 per cent of Teacher Training Center (TTC) candidates passed, the highest pass rate in all advanced-level schools.

This is not the first time TTCs have returned impressive numbers. Last year TTC students passed at a rate of 99.8 per cent, in 2019 the proportion of candidates who passed was 98.2, while in 2018 it was at 97.25 per cent.

During the release of the Advanced level results on December 14, the Director General of the National Examination Schools Inspection Authority (NESA) explained that the possible reasons leading to the consistently good performance in TTC schools.

Bahati pointed out that the students in TTC study well and especially the ones in their final year due to the government’s support to train good teachers who are deployed to support outstanding performers, among others.

Meanwhile, in TTC, 99.9 per cent represent 2,892 candidates who passed out of 2,895 who sat exams, which means that only three students in TTCs failed to get the required pass mark.

According to NESA data, the candidates who registered for the national examination were 2,907 (1,149 boys and 1,758 girls) but out of them only 2,895 wrote the exams (1,146 boys and 1,146 girls).

Generally, all categories (general education, TTC, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)) passed at over 90 per cent

In general education, 44,818 candidates passed, representing 94.6 per cent of all candidates of which 41,636 got two principal passes, while, in TVET, 20,752 passed, representing 97.8 per cent of the candidates who sat the exams, with 20,591 of whom secured two principal passes.
