Police FC and Kiyovu Sports could join APR FC and Rayon Sports as Rwanda’s representatives at the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup, which will be hosted in Rwanda from July 18 to August 9.

APR FC and Rayon Sports have already been earmarked for participation, but Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) President Fabrice Shema revealed that the federation is exploring the possibility of increasing the number of Rwandan clubs in the tournament from two to four.

Shema made the remarks during FERWAFA’s Extraordinary General Assembly held in Kigali on Sunday, May 31, where delegates reviewed the federation’s activities for the 2025 season.

"We are in discussions to have four Rwandan teams participate in the CECAFA Kagame Cup instead of the usual two,” Shema said.

"APR FC and Rayon Sports are expected to take part, but we are also proposing the inclusion of Police FC and Kiyovu Sports.”

According to Shema, the proposal is intended to strengthen domestic competition while providing more Rwandan clubs with valuable regional exposure.

The CECAFA Kagame Cup is one of six regional football competitions that the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has assigned Rwanda to host in 2026.

The Kagame Cup will be the first of those tournaments, running from July 18 to August 9. It will be followed by the CAF African Schools Football Championship (CECAFA Qualifiers) from July 22 to 25.

Rwanda will also host the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers from August 22 to September 6, while the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations CECAFA Qualifiers are scheduled for October 10 to 25.
