AFTER a patchy run in the Davis Cup over the years, Rwanda ‘s tennis  ace Jean Claude Gasigwa is desperate to make amends during this year’s edition which will be held later this month in Morocco.

Gasigwa, who lost out to Dieudonne Habiyambere (7-6, 4-6, 6-4) at the semi-finals of last month’s Banque Populaire tennis open, has started serious training at Nyarutarama tennis club.

After missing the Bujumbura leg of the ITF/East Africa Money Circuit because of an ankle injury, the 27-year-old still failed to live up to the hype after back to back semi-finals exits in the Kigali and Kampala legs.

His misery on the court was further compounded by a semi-final exit at the lucrative KCB Kenya Open but he is confident that he has time to return to his very best before the Morocco showdown.

"I have been having a nagging rib injury for some time now but it’s healing.”

"I have started training and it feels good so I’m optimistic that we I will be fully fit for this year’s Davis Cup,” he said.

Rwanda will be represented by a team of four players after a qualifying tournament to be held after the mourning period.
