Marines FC 3 -2 AS Muhanga
Rutsiro FC 0 - 2 Bugesera
AS Kigali 2-1 Musanze
Etincelles 2-1 Al Hilal
Rutsiro FC and AS Muhanga have been relegated from the BK Pro League following defeats to Bugesera FC and Marines FC respectively on the final day of the 2024/25 season.
At Umuganda Stadium, Marines FC striker Taiba Mbonyumwami inspired his side to a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over AS Muhanga, a result that confirmed the visitors' return to the second division after just one season in the top flight.
Mbonyumwami opened the scoring in the 25th minute to give Marines FC the lead. However, AS Muhanga responded just before halftime when Onesme Twizerimana equalized in the 45th minute, sending the teams into the break level at 1-1.
Marines regained the advantage in the 75th minute through Confiance Mukire before Mbonyumwami netted his second goal of the match deep into stoppage time in the 94th minute.
The striker was later sent off after receiving a second yellow card for removing his shirt while celebrating the goal, which also saw him finish the league campaign as the division's top scorer.
Cedric Kubwimana pulled one back for AS Muhanga, but it was not enough to prevent defeat.
The victory saw Marines FC finish eighth on the table with 45 points, while AS Muhanga ended the season with 31 points, confirming their relegation.
Meanwhile, at Gicumbi Stadium, Bugesera FC secured a 2-0 win over Rutsiro FC to condemn the hosts to relegation. Naibe Akpesiri opened the scoring in the 43rd minute before Valua Byinshimo sealed the victory late in the game.
Rutsiro FC finished bottom of the table with 27 points, while AS Muhanga ended the campaign in 17th place.
AS Kigali survive
AS Kigali preserved their top-flight status with a 2-1 victory over Musanze FC at Kigali Pelé Stadium. Aimé Ntirushwa opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, while Sunday Inemest struck a dramatic winner in the sixth minute of added time. Charles Nsoro had earlier equalized for Musanze FC in the 69th minute.
Elsewhere, Etincelles FC also secured their BK Pro League status with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Al Hilal FC at Umuganda Stadium.
Rutsiro FC and AS Muhanga will be replaced next season by Eastern Province clubs Sunrise FC and Etoile de l’Est, who earned promotion from the second division.
Etoile de l’Est had initially missed out on promotion but were later granted a place in the top flight after Unity FC withdrew from the league due to financial constraints.
The 2024/25 BK Pro League season concludes on Sunday when champions APR FC face Gorilla FC. APR will mark the occasion by celebrating both the league title and the Peace Cup after completing a memorable domestic double.
