Rayon Sports secured qualification for the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup after a 1-1 draw against SC Kiyovu on Friday at Kigali Pele Stadium.

Tony Kitonga’s superb first-half strike had put Rayon on course for victory before Kennedy Nsanzimfura equalised late for Kiyovu in the 85th minute.

The result was enough for Rayon Sports to finish fourth overall and second among local clubs, sealing Rwanda’s Confederation Cup slot.

Rayon dominated the opening half, controlling possession and creating several chances against Kiyovu.

The pressure paid off in the 39th minute when Kitonga fired home a powerful strike from a tight angle to give Francis Haringingo’s side a deserved lead.

Kiyovu improved after the break, pushing forward with greater urgency and forcing Rayon onto the back foot.

Kiyovu eventually found the equaliser in the 85th minute through Nsanzimfura.

The Blues ended the season on 56 points behind Al Hilal, APR and Al Merrikh, confirming their return to continental football.

Qualification also comes with financial rewards. Rayon Sports are set to receive CAF’s $100,000 participation grant (over Rwf146 million) for clubs entering the first qualifying round.
