Al Merrikh vs APR FC

Striker Cheikh Djibril Ouattara has said he is open to staying at APR FC, dismissing speculation surrounding his future after playing a key role in the club’s domestic double during the 2025/26 season.

The Burkinabè striker joined the Rwandan champions in January 2025 on a two-year contract that runs until January 2027.

After enduring a difficult spell in Algeria, Ouattara quickly rediscovered his form at APR and established himself as one of the most influential forwards in the BK Pro League.

His goals proved crucial in APR’s successful league campaign, with the striker currently leading the scoring charts with 16 goals—one ahead of Thaiba Mbonyumwami of Marine FC, who sits second with 15.

Ouattara also played a decisive role in APR’s Peace Cup triumph, contributing important goals and effective hold-up play as the military side navigated the knockout stages to lift the trophy.

Despite his impressive performances, speculation over his future has intensified ahead of the off-season transfer window, with reports suggesting he could leave the club at the end of the campaign.

The striker, however, dismissed those rumours and reaffirmed his commitment to APR.

"It’s not true. I signed a two-year contract with APR FC, and I still have six months remaining,” Ouattara said.

Ouattara will now look to strengthen his lead in the Golden Boot race when APR host Al Merrikh on Wednesday at Kigali Pele Stadium in a crucial clash involving teams battling near the top of the league table.

APR currently sit second with 62 points from 33 matches, three points ahead of third-placed Al Merrikh, who have played one game fewer.
