Abdominal Pain can be caused by an exhausting list of disorders, and it is extremely difficult to make the diagnosis at first glance, the cause or origin of the pain causing discomfort.

While many people think of abdominal pain as a stomach problem, the term refers to pain felt anywhere in the area between the chest and groin and can involve any of several different organs with in our body.

The most common causes of abdominal discomfort to many people include; indigestion that refers to a discomfort felt during or after eating, ranging from feeling full to actual pain. Indigestion can be a sign of a health problem such as gastro-esophageal reflux disease or cancer, but might be due to simply eating or drinking too much.

Medications that irritate the stomach, stress, fatigue, and anxiety can also lead to indigestion.

Symptoms of indigestion include abdominal pain, bloating, belching, gas, nausea, vomiting, acidic taste, and burning in the stomach or upper abdomen. This should not always be confused with heartburn, which is felt in the chest and throat.

Another common cause of abdominal distension is constipation. Most people experience constipation at some point in their life.

Constipation is the inability to have a normal bowel movement. This can be in the form of having to strain to pass stools or not being able to have a bowel movement at all.

Constipation can be brought on due to simple things, such as a change in diet or routine and underlying health problem as mentioned above.

It is worth to mention that the most common symptoms of abdominal discomfort include abdominal pain, abdominal pressure, swollen abdomen, difficult bowel movements, a lack of bowel movements, and vomiting.

Gastroenteritis that many people call stomach flu is the gastroenteritis problem.  The pain associated with gastroenteritis is due to the irritation and inflammation of the lining of the stomach and intestines, which can be caused by a virus or bacterial infection.

Abdominal discomfort and pain can range from minor conditions to severe life threatening emergencies. Some of the severe life threatening health conditions includes the appendicitis, chrohn’s disease and food poisoning.

Appendicitis is an inflamed appendix and an appendix is a pouch that is attached to the large intestine. Pain is generally felt around your belly button or down towards the lower right quadrant of the belly.

It usually worsens over time and is sharp and severe if left untreated. The person will usually feel nauseated and start running a fever. An appendectomy is performed to remove appendix.

Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of the bowels and gastrointestinal tract. It can cause pain everywhere in the body; from the mouth to around the anus (rectum).

Crohn’s disease is a condition that must be treated by the doctor to get any relief from the symptoms. This disease if left untreated can be debilitating to the sufferer.

Food poisoning is a condition resulting from eating organisms or toxins in contaminated food. Most food poisonings are from eating food tainted with Staphylococcus or E coli germs.

Most symptoms start within 2 to 6 hours of eating the food and in most cases the severity depends on the amount of food that was eaten and the bacteria that was ingested.
