One of the prominent holy days on the Christian calendar is Easter.

According to the biblical story, Jesus sacrificed his life for the good of the majority of his people. In the world today, there are numerous individuals who have put in their all, or even dedicated their lives to making the world a better place.

Rwanda, through its dedicated leadership and hardworking people, has emerged out of oblivion and become one of the fastest growing economies in Africa.

The intense fight against poverty has seen the percentage of Rwandans living in poverty fall from 70 to 57 percent between 1994 and 2006.

Important to mention, is that, there were many Rwandans who were deprived of the chance to live in their country because of the existing policies of the time.

It was not until 1990 when some Rwandans sacrificed their lives to liberate the country, that every Rwandan can now enjoy even the basic rights, such as living in their own country.

As we commemorate the 16th anniversary of the Genocide against the Tutsi, which will immediately follow the Easter holidays, we must also recall the people who lost their lives trying to save Rwandans.

This Easter, let us also go an extra mile and appreciate the Rwandans who sacrificed their lives, or are dedicating their lives to making the country a better place.

Happy Easter
