It was a great morning and the weather was cool. The morning chill was swept away by a warm breeze as I watched the sunrise from my bedroom window. Undoubtedly, I expected to have a wonderful day.

Everyone at home had woken up with huge smiles on their faces, a great day it was—it was Easter, the big day I had spent hours planning all the previous day.

With my family all around it seemed like a brand new day since I had spent a long time without seeing them.
All dressed up for church, I couldn’t wait to listen to the preacher, let alone check out all the prestigious people in their expensive and lovely new clothes seated on the church’s front row.

Prayers really went so smooth, actually it was the first time I felt so happy in church. More so with my girlfriend, Suzan around me, the day was even brighter.

The best part of the day was yet to come, and I eagerly anticipated introducing Suzan to the rest of the family. She was beautiful, friendly, well behaved and she definitely had a lot of potential. I really wanted my parents, especially my mum to get to know her.

The fine meal was served on the dining table. Everyone seemed to have a story to tell as they talked about their family businesses. Laughter filled the air as I dug into my roasted chicken—I was having the best meal ever.

Later in the afternoon, we had a cocktail. Music filled the lounge and we danced and talked some more. She looked so beautiful as she chatted with my cousin Raymond.

Sooner than later, I realized that Suzan was galloping her drinks like water, Raymond was encouraging her to drink some more. She was drinking like there was no tomorrow.
I wanted to officially introduce her to my parents, before it was late. But what happens when Susan my sweetheart got drunk?

By her side, I led her to where my parents were seated. Before I could even utter a word, she puked! Everything she had eaten was right on my mom’s lap. Everything went still in the room. I felt the silence and stares swallow me like I was nothing.

Suddenly laughter rang in my ears.
I stood still at a loss of words as I watched Suzan my drunken girlfriend run out of the house leaving a mess of my mom.

The horrible scene immediately struck me like thunder; I was the reason why such a tragedy was happening at home.

A year has passed and I have tried to fight back the thought of such an embarrassment from my head but it still feels like it was yesterday. This was the one embarrassing day I will never forget in my life.
