Kigali’s weekend calendar is running full, with the Basketball Africa League playoffs drawing the loudest attention at BK Arena. Even so, the city is not short on alternatives for people who want their plans a little more curated.
Streetwear, comedy, nightlife, books, circus acts and a citywide fitness outing all land between Friday, May 22, and Sunday, May 24.

Circular Culture by Icyacumi Con
Icyacumi Con teams up with Studio 18 for an activation built around East African street culture.
The market-style showcase is designed to connect creatives from Kigali and Nairobi through clothing, music and conversation.
The pop-up brings several streetwear labels, including Lost Records, Fragile, Hekima, Studio 18, Nature Apparel, Art of Life, Solo Nairobi and Santa the Jeweller. Organizers say it&039;ll be a space where people can shop, meet the makers and get a closer look at how regional fashion is evolving.
The event runs Saturday, May 23, at Institut Francais du Rwanda from 3 p.m. to midnight and is free.
A smaller pre-event activation is also set for this Friday at Kamahwa from 4 p.m. until late. Music on the day includes sets from K’Ru, Dauudi O, 72c, Mtu Solo, Sukuma Wiki, Afriikhun and Love, Mani.
No Notice at Atelier Du Vin
Malembe, It’s a Lifestyle is putting together the party for Friday, May 22, at Atelier Du Vin, with Carlos Lopez leading a lineup that also includes DJ Vanss, Hottempah and DJ Niny.
The event promises a late-night mix of music and premium entertainment, tickets are priced at Rwf15,000 for regular entry.
VIP table packages include Rwf600,000 for six people, Rwf1 million for 10 people and Rwf1.5 million for a VVIP table of 10.
BAL Season 6 Finals at BK Arena
The Basketball Africa League playoffs are back in Kigali, giving the city its biggest sports draw of the week. The quarterfinal action begins Friday, May 22, at 7 p.m., when Rwanda’s RSSB Tigers face FUS de Rabat of Morocco at BK Arena.
The playoffs bring together eight of the continent’s top teams from the Kalahari and Sahara Conferences, making this one of the most competitive stretches of the BAL calendar.
Saturday’s lineup starts at 3 p.m. with Libya’s Al Ahly taking on Tunisia’s Club Africain, followed by Dar City Basketball Club of Tanzania against Petro de Luanda of Angola at 6 p.m.
Sunday brings Egypt’s Al Ahly against Dakar As Ville de Dakar at 3 p.m., then RSSB Tigers against FUS de Rabat again at 6 p.m.
Inga Comedy Special at Kigali Universe
Kimenyi Herve is back on stage after what organizers describe as a strong showing at the last Thank God It’s Funny event.
His new special, Inga, lands Friday, May 22, at Kigali Universe from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and is positioned as a night for people who want something lighter after a long week.
Tickets are Rwf7,000 for general admission, Rwf16,000 for VIP and Rwf200,000 for a table of six, consumable.
Chai & Chapters at Umutea Villa
Not every weekend plan needs a dance floor. Chai & Chapters offers a slower rhythm, bringing books and tea into the same room at Umutea Villa on KG 255 ST, House 32.
The monthly gathering takes place every third Saturday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and is built around book swapping, pitches from local authors, reader discussions and reviews, all paired with East African food and tea blends.
The format is meant to feel communal rather than formal, with the organizers presenting it as a space where literary conversation and food meet naturally.
The Desperados Circus at Mundi Center
One of the weekend’s more unusual entries arrives Saturday, May 23, when The Desperados Circus takes over Mundi Center. '
DJ Kace, DJ Muun, Dawee and DJ Alida are set to headline a night that blends nightlife with circus performance.
The event is being billed as "the first of its kind" in Rwanda, with DJ sets, acrobats and circus acts sharing the same stage in an immersive format. It runs from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Ticket prices are Rwf12,000 for regular entry, Rwf25,000 for VIP access and Rwf13,500 for a Prescription ticket, which includes one regular ticket and one Desperados beer.
Shalli Popin’ Ahanad at Lemon
Shalli Popin’ Ahanad returns this Saturday, May 23, at Lemon, as Groove Kigali rolls out another Skol-backed show ahead of the Nigerian star’s Kigali appearance next week. The night will feature Juno, Bruce the 1st, Kem Lion, Muyango, Shemi, Melanin and Vega Drift.
The event is free, organizers are framing it as "a high-energy gathering with music, performance and a crowd ready for a late Saturday push."

Kigali Car Free Day
Kigali’s Car Free Day returns with a mass sports event that will spread across several parts of the city and bring together residents for exercise, movement and wellness.
The activity will be held at ULK Gisozi in Gasabo, IPRC Kigali in Kicukiro, Kigali Pelé Stadium in Nyarugenge and KCC Roundabout. Participants can walk, jog, cycle, skate, dance or simply join the atmosphere.
Free screening services for non-communicable diseases will also be available.
