Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS) has welcomed 146 commissioned officers, who completed a one-year course at RCS Training School in Rwamagana District.

In a passing-out ceremony held at the school on Friday, May 22, the Minister of Interior, Vincent Biruta, commended the new officers who graduated with the rank of Assistant Inspector of Prison.

"We expect you to protect national security in your duties at various correctional facilities, by practising what you learnt during the correctional course, respecting the rights of inmates and avoiding criminal behaviour," Biruta said.

"RCS has important responsibilities of receiving, protecting and rehabilitating offenders, in respect of their rights and with the aim of correcting them so that by the time they are released they will be better citizens, who respect the laws and contribute to the development of their families and the country in general."

RCS operates 13 correction facilities, including two all-female facilities, two mixed and one for juvenile convicts.
