Rwandan comedian, actor, and performer Hervé Kimenyi is set to headline a one-man comedy show at Thank God It’s Funny (TGIF) this Friday at Kigali Universe.

The show, which mainly targets an English-speaking audience, will also feature performances in Kinyarwanda, Swahili, and French.

Kimenyi is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of stand-up comedy in Rwanda. Over the years, he has built a reputation for blending humour with social commentary, often tackling issues related to culture, everyday life, politics, and African identity through comedy.

As a co-founder of Comedy Knights, one of Rwanda’s leading comedy groups, he has played a key role in the growth and recognition of the country’s comedy industry both locally and internationally.

Speaking ahead of the show, Kimenyi promised audiences an evening packed with "crazy stories and laughter.”

The comedian heads into Friday’s performance encouraged by the rapid growth of the Thank God It’s Funny concept, which has steadily built a loyal fanbase since its launch in 2025.

"It has grown exponentially. I think by now we have found our niche. I can clearly identify the people who attend our shows, especially mine. They include middle-class and upper middle-class audiences, young entrepreneurs, and young parents,” he said.

He added that Kigali’s growing international and multicultural community — including members of the diaspora, foreign professionals, diplomats, NGO workers, and business owners — has also contributed to the expansion of the comedy audience.

"It has become a cosmopolitan crowd, and many people are also earning income through comedy,” he added.

Doors will open at 6pm, while performances are scheduled to run from 7pm to 10pm.

Tickets are already available at Rwf10,000 for regular seating, Rwf20,000 for VIP access, while a table for six costs Rwf200,000.
