Arrangements are underway to have 194 lawyers swear-in this week as new advocates, The New Times has learnt.

The President of the Kigali Bar Association, Vincent Karangwa, said yesterday that the Association would today give all the required documentation to the High Court seeking authorization of the ceremony.

"This time we have all the documents with us and we are hopeful that the swearing will take place this week,” Karangwa said.

The ceremony, which was scheduled to take place a fortnight ago, was cancelled after the High Court requested the association’s Governing Council to submit minutes of the meeting that approved the new advocates.

The Kigali Bar Association had earlier told the High Court that the minutes were not available because the Association’s secretary was out of the country.

But Karangwa said that the minutes were now available and that all the lawyers to be sworn-in had fulfilled the necessary requirements.

If sworn –in, the number of the new advocates would be the largest ever since the bar association was established.
