Joy Lance Mickels scored a dramatic late winner as Sabah FK defeated Zira FK 2-1 in the Azerbaijani Cup final at Palms Sports Arena on Wednesday to lift the 2025/26 title.

The Rwanda international striker capped off an outstanding season by helping Sabah complete a historic domestic double after the club also secured its first-ever Azerbaijan Premier League crown.

Zira FK, featuring fellow Rwandan international Ange Mutsinzi, made a bright start and took the lead in the fourth minute through Eren Aydin.

Orphe Mbina brought Sabah level in the 70th minute before Mickels struck deep into stoppage time in the 90+1st minute to seal a thrilling comeback victory.

Mickels has played a pivotal role in Sabah’s remarkable campaign, emerging as one of the club’s standout performers throughout the season.

Sabah booked their place in the final after eliminating Qarabag FK in the semifinals in April.
