Tennis duo travels to Abuja

OLIVIER Havugimana and Gisèle Umumararungu left for Nigeria yesterday ahead of the 33rd edition of the African Junior Tennis Championships (AJC) due in Abuja from March 29-April 12.

Havugimana and Umumararungu left aboard Kenya Airways and are part of 170 players chasing for honours in the championship.

The pair earned wild cards to the event after impressing in the East Africa junior championship held in Kenya back in January.

Umumararungu sailed to the Africa Junior Championship after finishing fourth in the Under-16 category of the International Tennis Federation/Confederation of African Tennis (ITF/CAT) East Africa Zonal Championships.

Other regional players who will be in Abuja include Burundian Hassan Ndayishimiye, Guy Orly, Mitchell Onyancha, Stephanie Mbaya, Damaris Musera and Ishmael Changawa.
