It is hard to believe that Borabora is in Africa. A Hawaii beach theme complete with white floors and walls, a surreally blue water swimming pool, surrounded by white wooden sunbathing settees aided by deep blue pillows with a spectacular view of the sea, no, the lake.

And just to mention, the whole set up elevated by a wooden structure a meter or so high from the pristine beach white sands, like a proper aversion for high tides or God-forbid, tsunamis.

If you are the type that is fascinated by watching let alone playing fast speed water games with water bikes, to pump up your adrenaline you are already in the right place and you can now begin to get the picture in your head.

This is not sunset beach in Los Angeles or Florida. It is right in your backyard, literally. Borabora is the cosiest beach location this side of the world especially in a landlocked country.

Set in the Bujumbura backyard, Borabora is one of the spices of the Burundi almost cultish beach culture. It exemplifies the idea of neat and just bumps your mood up by the mere look of it.

The fascination to the eye does not stop there. When you look behind, an exquisite interior mixing good old white and beach blue of wall paintings, deep blue and white pillows, dim coloured lights tempts you.

When you turn ahead, the near distant is spiced by the crisp clean swimming pool, people of many colours dipping in the waters to run away from the sweating temperatures, palm trees nicely literally the scenery and if you a re lucky some beach volleyball.

The far distant offers the unruffled waters of Tanganyika depending on the time of the day, some fast moving water bikers to add to the exhilarating mood while on the horizon the allure of high table mountain like, well mountains in the Congo giving the false glamour that perhaps that is where the world really ends.

And of course, there can be no beach with margaritas and many other colorful tropical punches to seduce your taste buds and put your other senses in equilibrium with the subject of total fun.

Borabora is also a stone throw from Saga Plage, a kind of Canaan for party seeking Burundians and free-spending Congolese who drive into Bujumbura just for an hour from their country.

It also close to perhaps the most up market hotel in Bujumbura the Club du Lac Tanganyika, so a trip to Borabora can be a stop over in beach indulgence or a one day luxury into a different world.
