As far as the East is from the West, people’s tastes and preferences also differ when it comes down to Art. Society Magazine writer Linda Mbabazi asked across section of people, whether they would spend huge sums of money on a painting.

"Yes, I do love paintings, especially those of mountainous nature scenes and urban city landscapes.  I don’t tend to spend a lot of money on paintings, though.  But if I really love a painting, I’ll often give in to my impulse, like I did for a painting I bought in Colombia 2 years ago.  I even paid FEDEX to ship it home.”

Jeffrey Boyd, Executive Director, Hovde Foundation.

"I would spend a lot of money on a painting, depending on its value and quality of the house. If the house is cheap and poor quality, I wouldn’t waste too much money to buy a painting, but instead use it on more important issues.  I prefer locally made paintings, especially those that portray the Rwandan culture.”

Dr. Jean d’Arc Mujawamariya, Rwanda’s Minister of Gender and Family Promotion.

"Oh! I love art but I can’t spend a lot of money on any art piece however beautiful it might be; unless it’s sold at a relatively lower price.”

Louise Mukazana, Miss UNATEK.

"Art is essential and we find it through music, sculpting and paintings. I can only buy an expensive art piece if the quality is good.”

 Adan Ramata, Country Manager, Nakumatt.

"Certainly, I would buy an art piece if I liked it, especially if it has my favourite colours—yellow or dark green.”

Cleophas Kabasiita, Rwandatel’s Corporate Communication Manager.

"If the art piece is worth its price, I would definitely pay because most paintings have stories to tell.”

DJ Focus.

"I can never at any one point spend huge sums on a painting. I’m a trained artist, and   I won several prizes between 1990 and 1993 in Cameroon, for best visual artist.  If I found a pleasant paint, I would make it for myself and decorate it either in my house or office.”

Amani Kalisa, Fashion Designer and owner of the AMANI-K fashion house.

"I would pay any amount of money for an appealing art piece. I’m an artist too and often make my own paintings.”

Daddy De Maximo Mwicira Mitali, Fashion Designer and Actor.

"I love art so much that I would spend all my money on just one piece as long as it has an inspiring meaning.”

Sonia Kabuguza, Miss School of Finance and Banking (SFB) 2010.
