Kigali Club donates to orphans

KAMONYI – Over 30 members of the Kigali Gym Club on Sunday donated furniture and utensils worth over Rwf3.7m to genocide orphans in Rugalika sector in  Kamonyi district.Patrick Makuza, the club’s president and Beata Mukabahizi, an official of the Sports and Culture Ministry handed over the donation.

KAMONYI – Over 30 members of the Kigali Gym Club on Sunday donated furniture and utensils worth over Rwf3.7m to genocide orphans in Rugalika sector in  Kamonyi district.

Patrick Makuza, the club’s president and Beata Mukabahizi, an official of the Sports and Culture Ministry handed over the donation.

The group together with local leaders inspected the homes of the orphans living in Kagarama village.

The items included chairs, bed sheets, mattresses, bicycles and various household items.

Makuza said: "the assistance was collected from the concerned club members and various sponsors. The club is committed to assisting Rwandan orphans to live a better life.”

"This has been a tradition of the club to visit orphans annually and the members will continue visiting other orphanages in the future.”

He named other sponsors as Nyarutarama Sports Club, Bank Populaire, Rwanda Foam, Volcano and Horizon Transport company.

Ernest Mukunzi, the head of the 10 families, remarked that the support given to them showed that the community cares about their needs. "The gesture restores hope. We shall use the items well,” he said.

On her part, Mukabahizi pledged full support to the orphans and called on local leaders to assist orphans in their day-today needs.

The ceremony was also graced by Rwandan artist, Shafi, who entertained the orphans with his Kinyarwanda songs.
