Editor,

Shema Rukundo, a resident of Mbogo cell, Kiziguro sector in Gatsibo district is a foolhardy man. He was arrested by the very officer he attempted to bribe, the Kiramuruzi Police Post commander, Chief Sergeant Edmund Habimana.
If anyone hasn’t noticed already, the Rwanda National Police is at the forefront of the fight against corruption.

Therefore attempting to bribe an officer of the law is simply a one-way ticket to jail. All I can hope is that this message is being digested by all and sundry.

Instead of attempting to circumvent the law through bribery, I suggest that my fellow citizens uphold the law. That way, they won’t have to use underhand methods to get out of trouble.

I also want to thank the Police for being upstanding. I cannot even begin to understand the temptations that come your way.

That is why I think each and every officer who refuses a bribe is a hero in a small way. Keep up the good work.
