Access Bank Rwanda has opened a new branch in Kicukiro District, in a move aimed at bringing financial services closer to customers and supporting local businesses.
The branch was officially launched on Thursday, April 30, in an event attended by district officials, bank executives, and customers.
Confidence in Kicukiro’s economic potential
Speaking at the launch, Faustin R. Byishimo, the Country Managing Director of Access Bank Rwanda Plc, said the decision to expand into Kicukiro reflects the bank’s confidence in the district’s economic potential.
"We are encouraged by the support from local authorities and the progress in this area, which has attracted us to establish a presence here,” he said.
"Our commitment is not only to do business, but also to support small and medium enterprises and contribute to the development of the community.”
Mr. Byishimo added that the bank will continue to strengthen its services and build trust with customers while expanding its footprint in Rwanda.
Enhancing access and customer convenience
The newly appointed branch manager, Diane Umutesi, said the facility is designed to improve accessibility and convenience for clients in the area.
"We are bringing services closer to our customers, and we warmly welcome everyone to this new branch,” she said.

District leaders hail the new branch as a boost for SMEs and job creation
Kicukiro District officials welcomed the investment, noting its potential to boost economic activities and job creation.
Samuel Munkundire, the Director of Economic Development in the district, said the branch comes at a time when access to financial services remains limited in some parts of Kicukiro, yet they are critical.
"When you look at how the district is structured, it has many SMEs, yet financial institutions are still limited in some areas,” he said.
"This branch will help bridge that gap by bringing financial services closer to businesses that need them.”
He added that the investment is expected to boost job creation, both directly through the bank and indirectly by enabling businesses to access financing and expand.
"This aligns with the district&039;s and national targets on employment,” he said, pledging continued support to the bank.
A trusted banking partner: customer testimonial
Longtime customer and entrepreneur Janet Nkubana, Co-founder of Gahaya Links, shared a personal account of her journey with the bank, describing it as a relationship that has grown alongside her business.
"I joined the bank when it was still BANCOR, over 30 years ago, and we have grown together over the years,” she said.
Ms. Nkubana related banking to marriage, saying trust and consistency are key.
"When you have a good partner, everything works well. Moving to another one becomes difficult,” she said, prompting laughter from the audience.
She noted that the bank’s personalized services have allowed her to manage her business even while abroad.
"Even when I am outside the country, I can call and get support. The bank knows me, and that connection matters,” she said.
Ms. Nkubana added that she has referred several clients to the bank based on her experience, many of whom have also remained loyal.
Customer-centered growth strategy
Mr. Oluseyi Kumapayi, the Executive Director, African subsidiaries at Access Bank Plc, emphasized the importance of customers in the bank’s expansion strategy.
"Customers are the reason we invest,” he said. "This branch will focus on SMEs, where we believe we can make the most impact. We want this to be a place where customers receive value and build lasting relationships.”
He urged staff to ensure high-quality service delivery so that the branch becomes a benchmark for customer experience in the area.
The new branch operates past the Niboye traffic lights at the ground floor of JEKELY building.
