Children as young as 6 years are now swinging golf clubs every weekend at the Kigali Golf Club as more and more sponsors recognise the value of involving children in the sponsored events.

The Kids golf initiative which is the brain child of the club members has been supported by Macmillan, the Education Text Book Company, BCR, South African Embassy, Computer Point and MTN Rwanda.

The club received golf equipment for kids from former LPG champion Betsy King and The World home of Golf R&A St Andrews in Scotland UK.

Club President Marcel Byusa while speaking to The New Times confirmed that all kids are welcome and even though their parents are not members of the golf club.

"We want to see kids taking up this exciting and competitive sport so that we can build a national team at various age levels in the very near future,” Byusa said.

This weekend the competition will be taken to greater heights during the MTN Monthly Mug Competition that tees off at 12:30 on Saturday 27th March 2010 at the Kigali Golf Club. MTN Rwanda who sponsor the monthly mug as wells as the MTN/Ericson Corporate event have this month joined in the support of the Kids Golf initiative.

Rachel Mulinde MTN Rwanda Sponsor Manager, confirmed the company has laid out exciting Prize hampers from Simba Supermarket for the kids to compete for.

"Saturday will be very exciting and I hope many kids will be at the club to play and have fun…MTN is proud to be part of this initiative,” Mulinde said.

All children who would like to play can visit the Kigali Golf Club for a quick lesson and register to play on Saturday.
