Portuguese youngster João Deus and Russia’s Alexandra Talina were crowned champions in the boys’ and girls’ singles categories respectively at Week 2 of the ITF World Tennis Tour (J30), which concluded on Saturday at the IPRC-Kigali Ecology Tennis Court.
The second week of the tournament produced several surprises, particularly in the boys’ draw. Top seed Eaden Zack Harron suffered an early exit, failing to reach the quarterfinals, while Week 1 champion Oliver Hancin was eliminated in the semifinals.
Deus emerged as one of the standout performers, flying Portugal’s flag with a resilient campaign. He battled through multiple three-set matches—including a demanding semifinal—before facing China’s Hengzhi Cui in the final. Maintaining his momentum, Deus delivered another strong performance to secure the title in three sets, 6–2, 5–7, 6–2.
In the girls’ singles, Talina successfully defended her crown, sealing back-to-back titles with an assured display. She defeated Korea’s Eunseol Choi in straight sets, 6–2, 6–4, to retain the championship.
Harron bounced back in the doubles competition, teaming up with Legas Thomas to claim the boys’ doubles title. The duo defeated the Chiappero brothers, Angero and Valentino, in straight sets, 6–3, 6–3.
In the girls’ doubles, Talina partnered with Natalia Drobca to cap off a dominant week. The pair secured the trophy after beating Kenya’s Stacy Chepkemei and Korea’s Yejung Lee 7–6(4), 6–0 in the final.
