This week, "Mbabarira” star Princess Priscilla adds colour to our growing list of celebrities. The upcoming singer graces the cover of Sunday Times magazine, which celebrates Rwanda’s celebrities and high-ranking personalities of all calibres.

Princess Priscilla (real name Priscilla Umuratwa) shot to fame last year—thanks to her vocal talent, and ‘Mbabarira’ which earned massive airtime on the local airwaves.

She is always applauded whenever she is on stage, and a favourite to people of all age groups.

During the recent International Women’s Day on March 8, the 17-year-old thrilled over 900 people at Kigali Serena Hotel, who had flocked in to celebrate the event.
What keeps her going?

"I’m always focused and work hard to make my fans happy,” she reveals. "Music has been my dream, and I’m determined, and won’t let anything let me down.”

The self claimed ‘princess’ is in S.5, at Ecole La Colombière, offering Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology (MCB). 

She ventured into Rwanda’s music industry in September 2009, and was inspired by her grandmother, a traditional artist. However, Princess Priscilla admits that she was inspired mostly by America’s R&B singer-songwriter, record producer, Brandy. And in the local industry, she admires Meddy.

Princess Priscilla has already released three songs to her name; ‘Mbabarira’, ‘Tuwukate’, and ‘Akaraba kange’.
