Rwandan athlete Florence Niyonkuru claimed gold in the Elite Women’s 10,000m at the TCS World 10K Bengaluru, held on Sunday in India.

Rwandan athlete Florence Niyonkuru claimed gold in the Elite Women’s 10,000m at the TCS World 10K Bengaluru, held on Sunday in India.

The 18th edition of the race, which started at the Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw Parade Ground, featured 98 elite women competitors. Niyonkuru, who represents Rulindo-based Sina Gérard Athletics Club, delivered a standout performance, clocking 30:45 to take top spot on the podium.

She finished 14 seconds ahead of Kenya’s Brenda Jepchirchir, while Ethiopia’s Chaltu Dida Diriba secured bronze in a time of 31:03.

The event attracted more than 36,000 participants across various categories, including elite athletes, open 10K runners, senior citizens, athletes with disabilities, and recreational runners.

Niyonkuru’s victory caps an impressive run of form this season. The 2025 Kigali International Peace Marathon champion has been in excellent shape, recently winning gold in the women’s 10,000m at the national track and field championships in Kigali. Her performance in Bengaluru now stands as a personal best.

She has also made her mark internationally, claiming gold at the 40th edition of the Lion Races in France.
