NYANZA – Residents who participated in the construction of the Ntyazo sector offices and classrooms at EAV Mayaga School, in Nyanza district have appealed to local leaders for intervention after the contractor failed to pay them.

The residents accuse Dieudonne Nsabimana, the contractor, of not being honest.

"We spent all our time working on the site but he refused to pay us. We have nothing to eat because we were expecting to get money from the job,” said one angry resident.

"This affects our lives and our well being.”
When contacted however, Nsabimana argued that he could not pay the workers because the district cancelled his contract before completing the work.

"The district owes me more than Rwf10m.They should pay me in order for me to settle workers’ dues,” he said.

The district Mayor, Abdallah Murenzi, explained that Nsabimana’s contract was cancelled after he abandoned work before its completion.

He however, assured the affected residents that they would be helped to get their money.
