THE Confederation of East and Central African Football (Cecafa) has confirmed that this year’s Kagame Club Championship will be held in Kigali from May 15-29.

The Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye made the confirmation yesterday adding that Cecafa has even convinced Africa’s football governing body (CAF) to shift the dates for one of Amavubi’s CHAN qualifiers on May 23.

"One of Rwanda’s CHAN qualifiers falls in this period but it will not be a problem because the dates have been revised. The first leg is now scheduled for May 1 with the return leg on set for June 6,” said Musonye.

In the Cup, Rwanda will be represented by league champions APR and defending champions Atraco.
Last year, Atraco stormed to the title after dislodging Sudan’s El Merreikh 1-0 in the final.

Hamis Kitagenda scored the game’s lone goal to give Sam Timbe a third Kagame Cup title after back to back wins with Ugandan sides SC Villa (2005) and Police FC (2006).

In a related development, Musonye promised that Rwanda would receive their prize money arrears for this year’s Challenge Cup before the end of the week.

Rwanda who lost out to Uganda in the final are expected to pocket $20.000.
