KHI, US varsity enter strategic partnership

The Kigali Health Institute (KHI) has established a long-term strategic partnership with University of Emory that will focus mainly on outreach and service delivery. With 150 years of experience in medical education, Emory is home to a vibrant community of students, faculty, staff, partnerships, and affiliates- in the heart of Atlanta USA.

The Kigali Health Institute (KHI) has established a long-term strategic partnership with University of Emory that will focus mainly on outreach and service delivery.

With 150 years of experience in medical education, Emory is home to a vibrant community of students, faculty, staff, partnerships, and affiliates- in the heart of Atlanta USA.

According to the Head of Department of Biomedical Laboratory Sciences at KHI, Aliyu Atahairu, the partnership with Emory University will focus on basic training and continuing education where KHI students and staff can pursue further studies.

"This partnership will focus on basic training where KHI staff can go further studies at Emory or alternatively the establishment of training center at KHI which will be run by Emory,” Atahairu said.

Atahairu also said that the university is working on finding more sources of funding for KHI and increasing collaboration with other partners and strengthen research activities especially in malaria, HIV/AIDS and Environmental Health.

The partnership gears to strengthen Kigali Health Institute strategic plan. According to the plan, by 2021, KHI will be recognized as a centre of Excellence in the Great Lakes and East Africa Region for the education and training of mid level health sciences professionals.The priority programs this partnership is covering include, Medical Laboratory sciences, mental health, Anesthesiology, and the setting up of the Medical Assistant department.
